During engagement on the Place Plan, we heard from local people that they’d like to be able to influence decisions without having to go to a public meeting.
We applied to the Community Led Vision Fund and secured funding to set up a voting tool called Citizen Space. It’s the UK’s top tool for promoting local democracy and is used by the UK Government and lots of Councils and public organisations. It is now live on this Place Plan website.
We hope it will:
- Grow engagement in local democracy to shape Stranraer’s Place Plan.
- Offer a digital voting platform as another route for local people to influence decision-making.
- Encourage partner organisations to collaborate by sharing content and inviting locals to vote and respond with ideas.
A team of representatives for Stranraer’s key community partners trained to use Citizen Space. We’ll be testing it out over the coming months.
Citizen Space is used by UK Government, Scottish Government, local Councils across the country and a host of public agencies. We hope it helps make it easier for local people to join in discussions about important local plans.
Stranraer is pioneering the way in Dumfries and Galloway with this year-long trial.
Give it a go when we publish consultations and surveys.
